Capturing Old Thoughts
Written by: Wes Plaisance

My precious wife Christy and I spent 15 months on the border of Mexico doing mission work.  Before leaving to go on the mission field, our home church in Dallas wanted to prepare us with some training.  Part of that training included some physiological testing.  You know the kind… read these 200 questions and put down the first thought that comes to your mind.  I asked them, " Are you sure you want the first thought?"  Their reply was, "Yes."  So off to take the test we went.  Now the two people who were evaluating the test knew us fairly well.  When they came back with the results they were in shock.  They could not believe the results because it was so different from what they had known of me.  They had known me to be loving, patient, kind, thoughtful, etc.  But according to the test I could literally had been a murderer.  When hearing this I could do nothing but praise God.  Sounds kind of freaky huh!  They tell me the test says I have the mind of a murderer and I praise God.  If you have heard my testimony, then you know that on the night I received Christ as Lord and Savior I was on my way to murder someone.  You see, when I became a believer there was no reset button to erase the 19 years of junk that were still in my mind from my flesh, the world, and Satan.  As a Christian, my experience had been that my first thought was  from the junk I collected as my old self before Christ.  Then the Holy Spirit would share a thought of truth.  He would remind me that He made me new and I no longer had to act in the old thoughts anymore.  This gave me the opportunity to capture the old thought and replace it with the new one.  So whenever you are faced with thoughts that are not yours (from your flesh, the world, or Satan) you don't have to act on them either.  You can take them captive and live in Truth.

"We destroy speculations and every lofty thing raised up
against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every
thought captive to the obedience of Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:5
